Hello there!
I’m Sarah! A Los Angeles-based Graphic Designer for Film and Television, member of the Art Directors Guild [Local 800], the Television Academy, and Professor of Graphic Design for Film and Television at UCLA.
I’m a visual storyteller, a lover of typography, antique paper ephemera, vintage storefront signs, retro package design, and a sucker for a beautiful color palette.
I specialize in designing authentic graphics that help create a convincing environment for the world being portrayed — giving the audience and story a sense of time and place, whether that place is a post-war diner, a contemporary police bullpen, or a rocket on its way to the Moon. My goal is always the same, to provide a perfect and sometimes imperfect graphic that drives words on a page to real life.
From script to screen, I believe in going the extra mile. The beauty of crafting a good fake is in the tiniest of details — even if those details end up in the deep background of your TV screen...as they almost always do. My passion for design is in the process, and I love collaborating with other creatives who share the same love. Since 2021, I’ve had the honor of developing and teaching UCLA’s first-ever Graphic Design for Film and Television class for graduate students in the School of Theater, Film and Television. I’m passionate about sharing this unique corner of filmmaking and shaping the next generation of film graphic designers.
Let’s make some movie magic! This site holds a selection of my designs from the past few years. Please reach out if you’d like a customized portfolio for a specific project. For inquiries or questions, you can email me at sarahstimpson@me.com.
